Try Track Camp

TRY TRACK CAMP June 28- August 1. 8 am – 5pm $210 for the week. (Add $20 for extended camp to 6pm) Includes a race singlet, mini track meets, meet medal, two all day field trips to the Olympic Training Center and Speed Academy.

Camp conducted by USA TRACK & FIELD LEVEL II coach Caren Ware, a World and National Champion in 400m hurdles, Steeplechase, and Heptathlon.

Who is Caren Ware?
Caren Ware is a trained athlete, competing on the USA Track & Field Masters Team as a Heptathlete (7 combined events:  High jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, hurdles, 200m , 800m) , 400m hurdles, and the Steeplechase. She has won two World Championship medals, and 17 National Championship titles.  She is a USATF Level II Coach.  She is campaigning for Americans to learn to enjoy sport at any age by age grading sports and providing leagues, meets, events, and races for ALL AGES.  She holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration.  She has raised two kids now in college, and helped 5 inner city Hispanic boys run their way to colleges on schlorships.  She is currently running marathons on every continent, as remote as she can get, with whatever indigeous population is on that continent.  Look for her ensueing book, “It’s ABOUT TIME”.

“TRY TRACK” is a way for college track teams to train and teach younger athletes the skills to compete in any track event.  Training in each track & field event will be by a seasoned, trained athlete.

Saturday YOUTH TRACK Clinc Schedule:  Ages 5 to 13 yrs

8:00 check in

8:30 Groups/  Warm ups/ Drills

9:00 to 11:00 Track Stations:  Sprints, block starts, baton hand offs,

mini hurdles, bungee high jump, long jump, sand ball shot put, waterfall starts, lap strageties

11:00 to 12:00 Mini Track Meet.  All track attendees receive event medals.

Detailed skills, drills, and technique stations:  Sprints (100, 200), middle distance (400, 800), Long distance, hurdles, long jump & triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot & discus, Athletes can choose four in the course of the 2 day clinic and may attend the same station more than once to received more advanced levels in each venue, yet we encourage the athlete to explore areas of track they may not have tried or thought was their fortay.  TRY TRACK is a chance to see what events in track you like.  Who knows, you may consider being a heptahlete or decathlete or find that track is not just running…its throwing and jumping too.
